Welcome to Géricault Life Magazine in 2026.

My name is Paul Harper. I am the author, editor, and publisher of all articles at Géricault Life Magazine, (unless otherwise stated). I am delighted and frankly surprised to discover I’m as interested and committed to sharing my research on Théodore Géricault on this platform today as I was in January, 2019. All my new material on Géricault appears first on Substack, so if you haven’t yet subscribed, please consider doing so. My efforts continue to generate new discoveries while I try to publish material I uncovered more than a decade ago. I’ve kept the history of the site here, which allows me to once again thank all named here and many others for their support over the years.

In January, 2019, Géricault Life Magazine was initially a team of two. I wrote, edited, and art-directed the articles – Ms.Kazuka Namba proofed the articles and corrected my English. Ms. Namba was an enthusiastic and industrious participant in this project throughout those early years and remains a good friend. Marike Jonker has played a pivotal role as a reader, friend, and colleague since 2019 and continues, in 2026, to provide invaluable insights, suggestions, and critical feedback.

Christian Baulez first suggested I publish my research online in the fall of 2018, which led to the founding of Géricault Life Magazine. Colin Jones, my doctoral supervisor at Queen Mary, University of London provided support and frienship. Jean-François Belhoste has been a good friend and interlocutor. Robert Darnton, Elizabeth Mansfield, Michael Kwass, Peter McPhee, Frances Jowell, and Lynn Hunt, provided welcome support and feedback, as did Régis Michel, Henri Zerner, Jean-March Idir, Maurice Arama, Simon Lee, and Philippe Bordes. Colin Jones played the most important role in my research from 2012. Paul Joannides was the first to find merit in my work and patiently supported and criticized my efforts for nearly two decades.

I hold a BA (Honors) Dean’s List in English Literature,  University of Western Ontario 1992, and an ALM (History) from Harvard Extension School 2010 (Thesis). I was a doctoral candidate (part-time) in History at Queen Mary, University of London, 2012-2016. I withdrew from the Queen Mary doctoral program 2016 without submitting a doctoral thesis (which is why, in part, we are here together now).

* One important editorial note: I have removed the pronoun “we” in some articles and replaced it with “I” to more clearly confirm my authorship of all articles at Géricault Life Magazine.
